It was pretty clear that Wiggins stopped giving a shit about playing for free by the end of the season...same with Embiid to a lesser extent. Once their draft stocks were sealed, they were content to hang out on the perimeter (Andrew) or in the training room (Joel).
Those guys didn't come to a foreign country in order to play for some college in Kansas and get their asses ripped by a coach who wanted them to bust their humps. They came to put in their time until they could get paid...and that's exactly what they did.
Self's act only flies with players who are bought in. Guys who know they're only going to be on campus for six months don't give a shit about the name on the front of their jerseys. Wiggins could have put up 40 against Stanford if he thought his draft stock depended on it. He knew he was going #1, and he was perfectly fine with ending the season healthy and getting paid...which is exactly what he should have been worried about.
