Well, professional football runs show...not college. College basketball earns more ad revenue but facts aside it sure is an intriguing move. I understand that CFB wants to keep the setup of it's playoff format intact but what many are failing to realize is that in it's first year the CFB Playoff was given the perfect setup as far as viewing times are concerned.
I can't recall a significant sports event that has taken place before on December 31st (maybe NFL playoff games?). It's perhaps the toughest TV night all year. Most people devoted to college football will for sure tune in but there's the real possibility of a disaster when it comes to the ratings.
I can't imagine the advertisers are too happy about this decision. I suppose the interest will be proven in what kind of rate they can get for a 30 second spot.
