Let me tell you about Delaney. I saw his whole career, saw every home game he played at Arrowhead.
He was faster than Charles. He ran a 9.4 100 yard dash in High School. That's in HIGH SCHOOL. He got faster and stronger in college.
He could cut like Barry Sanders. He would lower his head and bull into tacklers like Sweetness. And he was running behind a piss poor offensive line. If he would have lived, and stayed injury free, he would have been HOF material no doubt.
And he was a humble guy. All he cared about was being prepared for the game, and doing his job.
It was a great loss to the Chiefs. Took them years to recover.
KC has had its share of tragedy. Stone Johnson broke his neck and died on the football field. Mack Lee Hill died during routine knee surgery. Derrick Thomas died from a needless car accident on a snowy highway. Delaney drowns trying to save some kids in a dangerous mudhole pond next to a water park.
The article said ESPN was planning a 30 for 30 about his life. That would be a great topic for that series. I hope they do it well.
And kudos to Phil for his input to this article. Nice to see a fellow CPer get some ink in the KC Star.
