After the previews for next week, and them saying "gets shot" and not dead, I'll put it 10:1 he's not dead. It'd be extremely ballsy, but really he's the center of the entire web of the rest of the principal cast.

It has to be some kind of low power ammunition- rock salt or buckshot.
First, given the range, if it wasn’t a low power shell, that scene should have been way more gruesome.

Secondly, look at all the trophy heads, including the shooter's bird head- which was taken off the wall. You can't trophy hunt with high power shells unless you want a mangled pile of skin and bones.

No doubt that this will up the ante for Ray wanting to find the guy.

If the bird's head wasn't present with Caspere when he was dead, I'd almost be suspicious of Vince setting him up after their last conversation. If he dies, he doesn't have to worry about him getting out of line, and if he lives, he knows Ray will have his own motivation to find the killer, who hopefully can lead Vince to where his money is.
