That's what I decided to do five years ago. I don't get as excited for the good stuff, which kinda sucks, but I know I won't be emotionally devastated in winter.

I'm waiting for us to burn a first-round pick on a guy like Chad Pennington for my next mental breakdown.

I'll go in with my preconceived, all-consuming notion that a first-round QB is the be all end all, and the one true path to sports fan ecstasy. And he'll get the Chiefs to the playoffs and I'll be like SEE! SEE! HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN! I'll be as happy as I was when Damon Huard was slinging it.

And then he'll blow it in the playoffs and I'll get fat again.

But that won't stop me from believing. I'll then believe that said R1QB just needs another year to develop and he'll get it right. And eventually I'll still be this guy :
