I know Hangzhou well. My former boss/good friend from Canada second wife is from Hangzhou and I hear it's beautiful.

Not sure you were warned but the Chinese police, PLA mostly, try to catch foreigners with Chinese women in their hotel rooms at night so they can shake you down for a bribe. If you go in that direction, do it during the day. many hotels even have people as floor monitors at the elevator exits on every floor to report to the front desk, who then calls the PLA. It's all a scary scam.
