He tried a curve the pitch before and didn't get on top of it - it fluttered over the zone and he was lucky that Correa didn't park the damn thing.
If he could've thrown that pitch at the center of the plate, the run takes it into the RH batter's box and Correa swings over top of it.
Ventura's curve just never came around today. When it was sharp, it was low. When he found the release point, he didn't find the break. It was either a ball or a cripple pitch and very little in-between.
I don't see how you can have that much angst over the pitch selection itself with as good as Ventura's hard stuff has worked today.
