There's still a huge difference between 3 runs and what could easily have been 5 runs. I'm not saying he pitched well. Obviously he didn't. He did limit the damage, though.
It's like a golfer who hit two balls into the water and sinks a 30 footer for double bogey and one who hits two into the water and then three putts.
You don't have to "give him credit" to acknowledge that it was huge in retrospect for them to strand runners at second and third with only one out.
