Blue Jays fan arrested after hitting baby with beer during Game 5 fracas
Thanks to Wednesday's dramatic Game 5 win (
TOR 6, TEX 3), the
Blue Jays are going to the ALCS.
The game came down to the seventh inning, which featured a wild go-ahead run for the
Rangers, three misplays by
Elvis Andrus, and a dramatic go-ahead home run by
Jose Bautista.
Unfortunately, that seventh inning was marred by Blue Jays fans who threw beer and cans and all sorts of other stuff onto the Rogers Centre field following that weird play in which the Rangers took the lead. Fans threw stuff onto the field again after Bautista's home run.
According to the Canadian Press, one fan has been arrested after throwing beer and hitting a baby. A baby! Here's the story:
Toronto police say a man has been charged with mischief after a baby was hit by the spray of a thrown beer can at Wednesday's Blue Jays game.
Const. Victor Kwong says Albert Grummitt was arrested Wednesday night and has since been released. He is due in court on Nov. 24.
Police say the baby was with her mother in the front row of the Rogers Centre when the can was tossed their way.
The television broadcast showed a teary eyed woman protecting her baby in the front row, though it's unclear if they're the same people involved in the incident that led to the arrest.
I understand fans were upset over the call on the field, but good grief, don't throw stuff. It's dangerous, first and foremost. Also, it's embarrassing.
General rule of thumb: if you are considering throwing something because you're angry, don't. No good can come from it.
