The president is a leader on campus, just like the Chancellor. He had enough sway to get some things changed and didn't. He had the misfortune of bowtie not being around too long, so he took more of the brunt.
People hated his guts and were looking for a good cause to get him the **** out. This wasn't the most ironclad thing ever, but it was enough to work so they used it.
He didn't lose his job because a kid called another kid the n word. He truly sucked at his job and they found a good cause to finally boot his ass.
You don't need to be a good politician to be good at your job. Uf you're gonna suck, you better be a damn good politician.

Wolfe's not lazy - he's cold. He's a guy that just does the job and doesn't feel a need to explain why he did it. And in a corporate context, that's a fine way to do things.
A month ago you could copy and paste every single thing people are saying about Wolfe, change the name to 'Loftin' and most would've still run with it. And it had nothing to do with Loftin (who's easily the most personable University admin I've ever met) - it's because they were pissed about the Planned Parenthood decision. So people assigned absolutely inaccurate personality traits to him because it made him an easier villain. The problem for them is that Loftin
is an excellent statesman and he got in front of the character assaults.
Wolfe couldn't do that. So when the mob lost their frontal assault on Loftin, they just turned to the next guy. Wolfe simply wasn't politically attuned enough to save himself.
You shouldn't need to be a politician to be a good University President, especially not the way Mizzou has structured their responsibilities. But what this makes abundantly clear is that you actually do need to be a politician now.
