Watch Hitchcock start Allen in the next game, Allen gets a shutout and Hitch creates a goalie controversy out of it.
Because Hitch.
Elliott has to be the guy. He's been amazing since Allen went down. Frankly, he's always been given short shrift around here. His numbers compare favorably to literally every single goalie in the NHL since he's been a Blue. Price, Quick, Lundqvist - none of them have been demonstrably
better than Elliott over the last several years.
But when the playoffs come, Hitch seems determined to bury Elliott and it seems to all spring from a single bad game (hell, a single bad goal) against the Kings a few years back. That game 4 loss against the Kings where he gave up 4 seemed seems to have permanently tarnished him. Don't get me wrong, that game was BAD. We had a 2-0 lead and even after coughing that up, took a 3-2 lead to the third only to lose 4-3. The series went from the Blues being up 3-1 and heading back to STL to being tied at 2-2.
And then of course Blues stuff happened, they scored 3 goals in the last 2 games and went home early. I just don't think it's fair to hang that on Elliott.
