Look, I love Charles and think he's a top 3 RB in the league. I'm not sold by any means on trading him. But taking a quick look at last years playoff teams you can see that the trend is no longer to rely on a star RB. Of the 12 team in the playoffs last year only 2 (?) rely on their star RB.

Vikings*
Seahawks*

Broncos
Patriots
Steelers?
Bangles
Chiefs
Texans
Panthers
Cardinals
Packers
Redskins


Considering the above, and his injury history. You'd have to strongly consider a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him. We could spend his $6m contract value on a FA that can help (IDK... Nelson? Boldin?). Neither of those two guys is more valuable than Charles, but the combination of a vet FA + a 2nd or 3rd round rookie just might be.

...it's an interesting position to be in. Trent Richardson went for a 1st round pick to the colts.
