The only thing they did right on Arya was have her fight the Waif in total darkness. There was no other realistic way for her to defeat the Waif, but in darkness, Arya's recent blindness helps giver her the advantage, but more to the point, having the huge reach advantage of a sword over a knife when the Waif can't see the sword coming is game over for the Waif.
It was dumb that Arya let herself get stabbed in the first place by being so careless.
The good thing is that we know it won't go down like this in the books, hopefully it will be handled better. Everything about her story in Bravos was better int he books, so I assume the ending will be as well.
