I think you have to have periods of really miserable weather to ever feel like your city has a curse, sports or otherwise. I'm sure San Diego die hard fans might feel differently, but there is so much fantastic about living in San Diego its really hard to get depressed (on a city wide scale) about anything. The average temp is 74 degrees! There are plenty of other options.
When you live in a city that experiences actual inclement weather that limits your time to spend outside, or just out and about, that's when sports becomes your escape, especially during football season. People gather and commiserate with one another, and if the local team does well, it lifts all spirits. When it doesn't, it layers a malaise that is palatable.
I just don't know how anyone could live in San Diego and let the fortunes of their sports teams come to the conclusion they are "cursed". If that's a curse, we should all be so fortunate to find one!
