I also think they've done a great job of trimming the fat and moving things along, while GRRM has just gotten more plodding and purposeless as the books have progressed. He REALLY doesn't seem like he knows how to get to where he wants to go with the books.

Agree. I loved the 1st 3 books. But I prefer the show over the last couple of books.
