Russell has so much ability that I'd hate to see him underutilized like that. Then again, he'll probably get more snaps that way than he would picking up scraps.
It just seems to put a long-term cap on his contributions. If he can develop, he could be a far greater difference maker for us out wide than he could as a safety.
I guess it's similar to the 'Fulton to C' talk. Putting a much lower ceiling Fulton at C and moving Morse out to G may actually yield a deeper, slightly better OL by putting someone that can give you a B job at both C and G, whereas Morse at C and Fulton at G gives you maybe an A and C job.
Personally, my position has always been put Morse at C, get your A and look for someone to push Fulton out. I'd like to see the same thing done at CB, but if he's blocked by Gaines, he's blocked. I just don't see it as likely as I think Russell has more potential than Gaines. If he's moved to S, it's hard to say that he'll ever get a chance to prove it.
