Meh. The runners up totals don't accurately reflect Phils chances in those majors. Many times he finished several strokes back. Even this week, he lost by 3. Historically that's a sizable gap. Yes he'd have won pretty much any other year, but they're Majors, hard to win. Sergio, Westwood and Montgomerie have tons of top-3. But how often were they really an eyelash away?
Plenty of guys played great only to lose by 1. (Think 2012 Masters when Day/Scott watched helplessly as Shwartzel went off like a time bomb with 4 birds to close)
Love Phil, rooted for him, but his legacy isn't any different winning or losing yesterday. And don't forget he threw one away in 2006 PGA which shouldn't have ever happened.
