Hudson is 'good', but his impact on the game isn't as great as a LT.
Fisher seems to finally be putting it all together and he played great the second half of last year. LT is a premium position and if you have a young guy with elite potential (which he finally started to show last year), then you lock him up. The Chiefs are gambling he will become just that.
I know one thing: I'd rather pay that $10 mil. a year to a young talented LT that was drafted 1.1 and has a ton of upside than a solid Center who was drafted at the bottom of the second round and doesn't have near as much of an impact on the game.

Morse will be better than Hudson anyway
