Well, you can take solace in knowing that Michael Cimino went on to make one of the biggest box office failures called Heaven's Gate. Even though the story itself isn't that terrible, his need to control every little thing ended up running the movie way over budget.
He insisted the big battle scene be fought on a plush grass field so the production company had to install irrigation systems. Funny thing was, he used a sepia filter so you couldn't even tell.
T&L was probably his best movie, although most people might argue for the Deer Hunter.
A perfect movie? Meh, I don't think so. It's not exactly Godfather 2.
