You can look at it 2 ways.
Yes, they are definitely overpriced for what you are actually getting. A little time spent doing your homework and getting a build-a-bed customized individually for you will end up with higher grade materials and a superior product for about 1/3 to no more than half the price. So, in part it's a convenience charge.
On the flipside, they're a good bed, in general. You spend roughly a third of your life sleeping, so how much is a good night's sleep worth ? People spend far less time in their car and don't blink for a second at spending 10 or 20 times more.
