I was a big Tannehill fan coming out; was actually pretty shocked he went as early as he did.
But he's not a Reid quarterback, IMO. Too erratic. My favorite thing about him was that he was unpolished and with some work could unlock tools that you usually only get out of top 5 picks.
Well I don't think he's polished up much at all. Despite having next to now time at QB in college, he still hasn't developed much beyond where he was at A&M. I really figured he'd come along more and turn into something of a mobile Stafford but it hasn't happened.
I'd take a chance on him but not with that contract; it's a pretty nasty one for a guy that was losing games for Miami until they decided to lean heavily on Ajayi. EDIT: Let me clarify; I'd take it in trade from Miami because they'd eat the bonus and the Chiefs could bail on his deal if they wanted to after the '17 season. At that point the AAV would be around $18 million with an easy escape clause. It's still overpaid but there's potential there and it's pretty much market for an average starting QB.
I'd rather draft a cost-controlled guy, but if you could get Tannehill for a 3rd and draft another guy in the 1st or 2nd, you're in nice shape. If you can rehab Tannehill and deal him, that works nicely. If your draftee doesn't pan out, you still have Tannehill to fall back on.
But the fins won't deal him; they're too heavily invested in him at this point.
