I'm a huge Chiefs fan, and as such, I really want to like Alex as a player. But I just can't. I watched a replay of the Bears/Packers game last night. Other than 2 throws (his 3rd INT was on a Hail Mary at the end of the 1st half), Matt Barkley threw the ball downfield light-years better than Smith. He also steps up in the pocket better than Smith, who seems to shit himself at the first sign of pressure.
Smith's one redeemable quality as a QB was his ability to avoid the crucial interception. If he's not at least doing that (i.e. the Tampa and Tennessee games), he just doesn't bring anything to the table that some stiff off the scrap heap couldn't bring.
