Look, I'm a consumer. I expect some faithfulness to the original when I'm watching a production of the same play. As soon as I heard a black man's voice that sounded nothing like Michael Crawford, or even like someone that could have been the Phantom IRL, I was completely taken out of my immersion. The very idea of Chernow's novel (which I've read) being dumbed down into some hip hop dogshit by a bunch of leftist agitators is disgusting to me. I remember being thrilled when I first heard somebody was making a musical about Hamilton's life. Then I learned the details.
