The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be approximately 8,830 new cases of Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed this year. Of those, says Anas Younes, MD, director of clinical and translational research in the department of lymphoma and myeloma at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, “about 20 percent will relapse or become refractory [resistant to primary treatment], often within two years of when the individual finishes treatment.”
