2012 absolutely plays into it. I never understood how the Nats shut him down for that either.
The guy's National career was going to be about the times he DIDN'T answer the bell in the post-season with a sprinkling of his injury history and his massive contract.
He had to pitch, man. And Baker needs to keep an eye on him and have a relatively quick hook. But when they have Gio on regular rest for game 5 and Strasburg on regular rest for game 4, he can't sit it out.
Scherzer would've probably pitched game 4 if Dusty asked him to because Scherzer is a psychotic competitor. Strasburg, OTOH, doesn't seem to have that gear.
