As of last week the 49ers were 8th in run defense, and those numbers were skewed by Marlon Mack consistently getting outside of containment (Armistead not setting the edge and Tartt getting caught inside). Bowman will help any team on the field.
BTW, just because a player has many years in the league, doesn't mean he's a leader in the lockerroom. I have never heard Bowman being a defensive leader. He just plays at a high level.

So why don't they just keep him? They already owe him his salary for the year. They don't save anything by cutting him.
