Then your issue is with the rule itself and not how the refs are interpreting the rules in place. If you are going to the ground during the catch, which he was, you need to "survive the ground with control throughout".
The ground not being able to cause a fumble isn't relevant because it isn't a fumble that is being ruled, it's loss of control, which is different.
Not saying I like the rule, because I don't, but the refs don't make the rules.
