He knows the playbook, he’s been through a full NFL season, he’s seen how things operate. He is at the point now where mentally his focus is beyond play calls and what routes are being ran, and is now focusing on all facets such as what the defense is presenting.
We can’t say the same for Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, or any other true rookie.

Biggest thing for Pat this year is the mental aspect. He showed a ton of growth last year in that area. He read a lot of the Broncos defensive playcalls beautifully and acted on blitzes.
As much as many people here hate him, Alex was a huge part of this part of Pat’s development and now he’s gone. Alex is a very good processer reading the play pre-snap, but he’s an average at best implementer whereas Pat was the total opposite entering the league.
Andy bringing in Henne was obvious but also bringing in McGloin was by design. With Nagy and Alex gone, Andy needs as much veteran assistance on the sideline and in the QB room as possible.
We will see how Pat does once teams have film on him and can scheme against his strengths. We probably won’t know that until at least October when he’s played a handful of games.
