I have used the insert type on Mercury Outboards that have no head to be removed. Coat the tap with grease to catch the cuttings from the tap. Use some hi-temp loctite on the insert. I don't really like the coils although I have used them as well on repairs that are closed at the bottom so the insert can't fall through.
