i use helicoil save a thread for spark plugs, they are solid inserts. it comes with a stepped tap. it threads into the existing hole and then steps up to a larger size. then you screw an insert on a plug, loctite it and screw it into the hole. when the loctite sets up then you remove the plug and put a drift in there thats tapered and hit it with a hammer to make a seat for the plug in the insert.
takes me about 10 minutes other than he loctite setting up
