Different era so not an exact apples/apples comparison, but see Marino’s epic rookie season with the Dolphins. I remember a lot of Miami fans assuming that would be the start of several Super Bowl appearances/championships with Marino, but it was not to be.

Especially in today’s NFL with salary cap realities and the window of salary cap flexibility with Mahomes on his rookie contract, the Chiefs have to capitalize.
