But those are sort of logical extremes. For most football teams, I can't see running the football to be an obviously easier way to tire out a defense than passing. And I've NEVER heard defenses routinely talk about how gassed they are by the end of the game like they're doing against this freakshow that Reid has put together...

I’d guess it’s more a number of snaps that’s the issue. A running team (or an Alex Smith led team) will take longer to punch it in that an air it out squad.
