Glad my kid has never needed a swat like that.
He's been spanked, bare hand, maybe 2-3 times in his life.
The fear of discipline is enough for him.
And while i'd love to take credit for the good, respectful and intelligent son that he is, i'm pretty sure he's just wired that way.
