Dalton lacked Lock's baseline athleticism and I think that's hugely undervalued. Athleticism is what allows quarterbacks to save a play that's gone off the rails. It doesn't necessarily mean he's going to break the pocket and run for 20, but rather that he can still make a throw while moving and without his feet perfectly underneath him.
If you get Dalton off his spot, he's finished. And while Lock is no Mahomes in that regard - nobody is. Lock is going to be more capable of saving a play than Dalton was. Dalton was a glorified AJ Green JUGS machine. Lock may not make it to that point if he can't get a better feel for passing (just knowing when/how to feather a ball in there and improving on his ball placement), but if he does, his physical tools are better than Dalton's.
