I now wonder about the connection of this to our most infamous Scot, Scottie Pioli. The timing isn't quite right, but it's possible that it corresponds to his birth or something.

How do we get rid of a Scottish curse? I wonder if perhaps our cheerleaders could appease them by wearing short plaid schoolgirl skirts. It may be worth a try.
