Hell, has Denver ever drafted a stud QB in the first round? Cutler? Stud? Tebow, stud? Lynch, stud? No. No & No. I'm going off memory here, but hasn't Denver had to trade or go the FA route for any successful / stud QB? Morton, Elway, Manning? Yes. Yes & Yes. So, it's not like you guys are this great QB talent drafting franchise.
But if you're saying that at least you guys took your shots in the 1st round, I'll give you that one. Still paying for that "Lynch shot" though. OUCH!
Regarding Lindsay, maybe because they thought his name was "Patrick" too, and like you, didn't know who Phillip was?
And / or maybe because at 5' 8" and 185lbs, many probably thought that he was too small to be an every down RB. He did get hurt this season, right? So, why draft a guy like that when you can invite him to camp afterwards?
