If you remember 1980s and 49ers then I guess you must remember the 49ers were not clean either (silicone on jerseys, Rice and stickem and headsets going out). Do you remember fan reactions or sanctions? No, me neither, cause there was none, because no one cared, but it all happened.
The AFCE has not be as weak and many folks think and were stronger in the first half of this Pats run. Altho recently they have been weaker.
The Pats record against the AFCE is not that much different than against the rest of the NFL with some of these games being played against the #1 seed in the other divisions.
When one team always wins the division more often than not the rest of the division will have loses as they lost to the division winner.
