Yes - a shotgun, loaded with buckshot - is a formidable weapon, but it's also a pain in the ass to maneuver (if you have to leave the room). Walls get in the way...you may have to swing it from one shoulder to the next, etc.

Will it do the job? You bet your hiney. But it a split second timing situation, it does present its own problems - as mentioned above. I fondly recall my Dad - who was a huge believer in shotguns loaded with Buck shot.

Of course, he violated the law by cutting the barrels on his double barreled 12 gauge from ?18 inches? down to like 12 inches. But, back in those days - folks didn't get "quite" as ape-shit crazy over things like that......

My "security blanket" of choice? A Springfield Armory 1911 -or- a Sig Sauer P220 (.45 also). Personal choice to be sure, but for me, they work. One or the other ALWAYS sits on my night stand. We have no children at home - just me and the Wife.
