What did Houston do this season to earn his salary? Dee Ford had a good year but it's ONE.....He hasn't shown consistency or durability to pay him what he's going to want. Eric Berry has been a nice story, but hasn't done anything to help this team in 3 years and he's cashing fat, salary cap eating checks. If it's not scheme, I think the Ragland experiment needs to end. The team needs wholesale change at safety too as well as upgrades at Corner.....I'd be happy for another one that turns and looks for the ball.

FWIW, I agree with all of this.
Ragland has been a bad hire from day 1. I honestly don't know why the personnel guys didn't realize this earlier. He's far too slow for the new NFL.
Houston is overpaid. So is Berry (obviously). Ford is a tough one because he has skills and remarkable talent. You just can't count on him. Tag him, maybe ... but I wouldn't give him a long-term deal.
I'm not buying the idea that Berry is the "leader" of this defense anymore. Mahomes proved that young guys can take over any necessary leadership role. Make him a coach or renegotiate or trade him or something, but if he can't get himself right, you move on. Maybe move on anyway.
Houston may have another year left in him, but it's safe to say that his production won't be worth the price.
At this point, you build around Jones (assuming he didn't blow out his knee again in the AFCCG), Fuller, Nnaugty, and Hitchens. That's not much of a core.
FA might be the only way to fix this next year.
