This philosophy proved successful, with the Giants leading the NFL in sacks in 2007. In Super Bowl XLII, Spagnuolo's defense sacked Tom Brady five times, which was the most he had been sacked in any game that season.

He kind of scares the hell out of me because for as experienced and smart of a DC he is, his defenses always seem to be meh.... Scares me also that nobody's knocked on his door for a full year. But his scheme is better. It's more modern than what we have. I'm still intrigued by Mike Smith as an internal guy but hate that he's primarily tied to Sutton's scheme. What if the Chiefs named Mike Smith as DC and hired Spags as basically co-coordinator & consultant.
