That, and also:
Newspapers are too large to read comfortably while sitting in a chair. You really need a table or something to lay the paper on, unless you fold it....which brings me to the next point
Once you unfold a newspaper, it's damn near impossible to get back together in order to fold it cleanly and tightly again. It turns into a puffy mess of loosely stacked paper.
