I would probably recommend diving into the deep end with New Sun. That’s what I did and I fell in love with him. The rest of the Solar Cycle is great, too. New Sun is followed by Urth of the New Sun, The Book of the Long Sun, and The Book of the Short Sun. New Sun is standalone, though. The Soldier series and his short stories are fantastic, too.
