If I were a GM, I would trade picks all day long for proven commodities.
I get that rookie contracts are nice, but good players cost money. It is what it is.

Some of the most vocal opponents of this trade are the people most involved in the draft talk. When you have invested 4+ months going over and over (and over and over...) who to draft at #29, it can be a kick in the nuts when that pick gets traded away. You've hyped up "your player" so much that it feels like a loss when it won't happen.
The truth is that in this draft, #29 is kind of a sucky place to be as the elite talent will be gone and you will be over-drafting 2nd round talent (though getting a fifth year in the process).
