Because in this case the rest of society has consented to the breach of norms, etiquette, rules, and laws for the purpose of aiding an individual in a special circumstance who can't function without extra consideration. When that individual actually requires the extra consideration in order to function most people are understanding, even to the point of offering aid themselves if appropriate. One of the most destructive forces in a complicated society is the existence of people who wrongfully impose on others simply to make their lives easier or to gain some sort of unearned advantage.
