People listened to him just to say how much they hated the guy. He was a self righteous blowhard and he just kept pushing the envelope until it fell off a cliff. I don't know how the guy could have gotten back on the air to be honest. He really pissed a lot of people off.
That said, I was surprised he was fired...and I also was not after some reflection. 22 years on that station, dude should know better. He asked for it and finally got it.

He talks in public 20+ hours per week for two decades. He’s going to say some things that piss people off here or there or his show is going to be a snoozefest. The thing to do when a radio host does that thing that you consider your final straw is to turn the dial to one of your nearly infinite options in today’s internet world, not try to organize a campaign to make sure no one else gets to listen to the guy either. IMO
