groupthink starts out with everyone in the group working together to attack their perceived enemies, but once those enemies are seen as having been discredited the group starts purging itself. Everyone is forced by the group's most extreme personalities (and their toadies) to move to similar beliefs or be the next target. No moderate positions like "KCTV was deceptive, but Hill might still have violated the NFL's personal conduct policy" are going to be tolerated. The group's mindguards see to that. Eventually people are required to conform or be the next target.
I'm sure Whitlock doesn't mind. He understands this and generating attention for having non-conformist views is part of his job. Being outraged at him on social media helps gain more visibility for his brand and his views, so it's self-defeating.
