"50 years of failure . . ." has nothing at all to do with this season, or any season for that matter. Unless you believe in faeries/unicorns/voodoo, etc.
This is the most complete team the Chiefs have fielded in more than 20 years. We have the most talented QB in the NFL, perhaps in history. We have the most dangerous WR in the league, the best TE, one of the best defenses in the league, coached by one of the best DCs we've ever had, and orchestrated by the best offensive-minded HC/OC in this century.
And then there's the competition. Most of the AFC contenders this year are not on the same level as the Chiefs. And even the mighty Patriots aren't what they once were. Only the Ravens are truly on equal footing with the Chiefs. But only so long as they don't fall two scores behind. Take away their running game, and we have them exactly where we want them.
Of course, anything can happen; it's football after all, but there is every rational, logical reason to believe this team will succeed in the playoffs, and very little reason to believe otherwise.
