I suppose teams could have waited a week, but it shouldn't be expected that his team would lose in the divisional round. So there he'd be put off one just one more week, and then when if the Chiefs won again?

The Chiefs once had to hire their head coach in February because they wanted Haley. Teams rarely want to do that. It'd difficult to ask teams to wait for a full month like that without a head coach.
