If he gets the first down and takes a knee, they can kneel down to run out the clock and the Chiefs only lose if they somehow fumble a kneel down.
If he scores the touchdown, the 49ers get the ball. Sure, their chances of winning are low from 11 points down with one minute left and two timeouts but they are higher than the chances of messing up a kneel down. If they get a field goal first then you have to sit through the sweatiest onside kick of your life.
