Abner Haynes trade to Denver was a shameful day in Chiefs history. Abner made the 1964 AFL All Star team which was to be played in New Orleans. New Orleans had segregated hotels for Black and White players. Abner led a resistance by the black all stars not to go if the hotels were segregated. The game was moved to Houston, where players could all stay in the same hotel. The Chiefs summarily traded Haynes to Denver for being "Uppity" and a "boat rocker." There's a letter that Jack Steadman sent him that basically said he was being traded for these reasons. He was akin to Colin Kaepernick in 1964 over Civil Rights. He had his principles, and the Chiefs got rid of him for making the league move the game from New Orleans to Houston. You can read about it here:
